Clare Balding presents coverage from along the River Seine. Approximately 10,500 athletes, who will compete across 329 events in 32 sports over the course of 16 days, are introduced nation-by-nation and cross through the centre of Paris on boats. It is the first time in the history of the Summer Games that the ceremony will not take place in a stadium, with the 6km route taking in many of the venues that will be used in the festival of sport, including Parc Urbain La Concorde, the Esplanade des Invalides and the Grand Palais, before concluding at the Trocadero against the majestic backdrop of the Eiffel Tower. With many of the viewing points free to spectators, a vocal reception from French residents and visitors from all around the world is anticipated, as the event is officially opened

Hazel Irvine presents further live coverage of day one, including the women's and men's cycling time-trials from Pont Alexandre III at 1.30 and 3.30 respectively. Primoz Roglic won Slovenia's first cycling gold medal in the men's event at the last Olympics, and Great Britain's Josh Tarling is one of the contenders for his crown this time around, on a challenging 32.4km course. Roglic pulled out of the recent Tour de France through injury, but is expected to be among the challengers once again, along with multiple global medallist Wout van Aert of the Netherlands and two-time world champion Filippo Ganna of Italy. Annemiek van Vleuten of the Netherlands was victorious in the women's event in Tokyo, with reigning world champion Chloe Dygert of USA one of the main contenders this time around. There is also action from the semi-finals of the men's rugby sevens at the Stade de France, with reigning champions Fiji expected to be involved

Further live coverage of day two, including the women's cross-country mountain biking event from 1.10 at Elancourt Hill. Malvern rider Evie Richards became Britain's first mountain bike world champion just weeks after finishing seventh at the Tokyo Olympics, though her preparation for Paris has been hindered by concussion symptoms. France's Pauline Ferrand-Prevot is the current world champion and guaranteed incredible support as the riders go wheel-to-wheel on a narrow and twisting cross-country circuit. Another Brit vying to tame a treacherous course could be multiple global medallist Kimberley Woods in the women's canoe slalom kayak single final from 4.45 at Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium
